In Difficulty?
For Dental Registrants in Difficulty (DRID)
At times, dental professionals may find themselves needing guidance and support to address challenges in their professional journey. Whether these challenges arise from a clinical incident, patient complaint, or as part of an investigation by your employer, commissioning body, or the General Dental Council (GDC), it’s important to know that help is available.
You may decide to seek support on your own, or it might be recommended by your indemnity organisation, legal representative, or required as part of a GDC Fitness to Practise (FtP) process. Whatever your circumstances, taking this step is a proactive move toward resolving concerns and rebuilding confidence in your professional abilities.
The Role of Development Advisers
Development Advisors are trained dental professionals from all registrant groups who provide tailored support to colleagues facing challenges in their careers. Whether you are addressing conditions imposed by a practice committee, meeting undertakings agreed with a GDC case examiner, or simply looking to enhance specific skills, Development Advisers can help guide your progress.
These professionals work collaboratively with you to develop and implement your Personal Development Plan (PDP). Their role includes:
Offering guidance:
Helping you address areas for improvement in skills, knowledge, and professional conduct.
Monitoring progress:
Ensuring you meet the deadlines and objectives outlined in your PDP.
Providing accountability:
Reporting your progress to relevant decision-makers when required.
