Fiona is a visiting lecturer and programme advisor and developer, she acts as a key opinion leader and advisor for oral health education and preventative programs across the dental arena. She is a former examiner for the NEBDN Diploma and oral health program and was involved with some of the past pilot sites, supporting dental nurses to undertake additional duties and helping practices to adapt to a new way of working. Fiona has been involved in developing relationships with UKPHR and looking at a wider project for Oral Health Promoters and Educators. She speaks on a number of topics for Health Education England and was privileged to speak alongside Prof Andrew Smith and Mr Lee Worthington at the Institute of Decontamination Sciences Conference.
Fiona is a trained mentor and has fostered and developed a mentoring culture in a number of areas both within and outside of dentistry. Her Mentoring work has been far reaching and more recently has included supporting a scheme to help dental colleagues when working with underperforming dentists. The focus of her dissertation for her BA looked closely at the value of mentoring in supporting adult learners in HEI. Equally Fiona is a board member of the educational team at the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). Her final dissertation for her MA in Education looked very closely at the concept of leadership, which has given her greater insight to the ever changing world of health, education and dentistry. This has also helped her in her role as an External Examiner for the University of Dublin.
She owns a training business in the Midlands, and is the founder of ‘Mentoring Network’ and has been responsible for looking at indemnity packages for dental nurses. More recently Fiona has taken up a voluntary post and is supporting a government led scheme to provide mentoring in learning for long term cared for children.
