Dr. Janine Brooks MBE

I am a senior clinical leader with over thirty-six years broad management and leadership experience within the National Health Service.  I enjoy working with people from a broad range of backgrounds and with a wide variety of interests.  I have excellent network links both within and outside the NHS and I’m experienced in working at a national and a strategic level.  I have a deep knowledge of quality assurance, verification and governance systems.  I’m an effective and experienced coach/mentor for personal development, career progression and remediation.

I spent nineteen years working in Community Dentistry, as a clinician and Clinical Director.  More recently I was the Associate Director (Dentistry) for the National Clinical Assessment Service) and Associate Postgraduate Dean (Thames Valley & Wessex).  Currently I am an educational inspector and a registration assessment panelist for the General Dental Council, I lecture widely on a variety of topics, I am Lead Clinician for the Bristol University BUOLD distance learning Law & Ethics Course and a coach for the Professional Service Unit, NHSE Thames Valley.  I am CEO of Dentalia Coaching and Training Consultancy, Director of Dental Coaching Academy and co-founder of Dental Mentors UK.  I am a Trustee of the Dentists’ Health Support Trust and an Honorary Fellow of the Society of British Dental Nurses.

I have been working as both a coach and a mentor for approximately five years, before that I used the skills but not in a formal way with clients.  Since 2011 I have worked with over 60 professionals using the skills of coaching and mentoring.  Most of my work is with dental professionals who have a fitness to practice case against them and who are undertaking a programme of remediation.  They often need support to work on their Personal Development Plan and the actions they need to take to meet conditions on their registration.  I also work with professionals who are seeking career guidance and those who wish to development themselves.  I am a Meyers Briggs practitioner and I find that a very useful tool to aid self awareness, insight and a better understanding of how and why we react to the world around us in the way we do.

I work across the United Kingdom and most of my mentoring support is by telephone or remote platform.  This allows me to be flexible and available at evenings and weekends as well as normal surgery hours.
