I am an experienced dental leader and have been lucky to work in a variety of roles, giving me broad experience of working in diverse settings in acute, community and education environments.
I am a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry working fr most of my clinical career in the community dental services and an experienced dental educator. I spent a wonderful year in India training Tibetan Dental therapists in the 90’s.
I work as Associate Dental Dean for Health Education England in the West Midlands, and have jsut spent almost 12 months as Interim Postgraduate Detnal Dean. I worked in a large acute trust in Wolverhampton with special care patients who require enhanced clinical and communication skills until June 2017. I have extensive experience of leading and managing dental teams through periods of change while in the Clinical Director role for this service.
I also hold positions in the Birmingham Dental School, Birmingham University as Honorary lecturer and as a lecturer on the Bristol University BOULD Distance Learning Law and Ethics course and am an examiner for the Diploma in Special Care dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons, England.
I started to coach/mentor about 10 years ago when I began working with dentists taking a career break, providing career coaching and helping them to devise a plan for getting back to work.
I undertake coaching on referral and have coached a wide range of senior professionals including dentists, Dental Care Professionals, psychologists, managers, senior nurses and doctors, within the NHS and with some private health care provision, working in a range of settings in primary and secondary care and education.
I have worked extensively with dentists needing professional support. The support takes the form of individual coaching/mentoring sessions allowing individuals to formulate a Personal Development Plan to address these performance concerns, facilitating improvements in clinical and professional standards to satisfy the referring body that real and lasting improvements have been made.
Style and Approach
Coaching works best when there is mutual respect and trust between the coach and coachee and I ensure that I provide a safe space for conversations to take place.
My own personal style is relaxed but I ensure that clients have clarity about the parameters of the coaching relationship, what to expect from me as a coach/mentor and what it means for them, before agreeing to embark on the process. I provide support either face to face or by telephone.
